We're One Big Community
Yesterday, every single person in my school - students, teachers, and staff - walked out the door.
We all walked out the door and kept walking, for a mile. We circumnavigated the lake near our school and ended back at our school's front door.
We were walking for health, walking to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise.
We were walking in honor of a 5th grader who dies from complications from an undiagnosed case of Diabetes. This young child died eleven years ago, before any of these students were born. They didn't know him, but they understand why we walk.
Five hundred people covers a lot of territory when stretched out along the sidewalks. We were a presence. We raised awareness. I am proud to be a member of this community.
