Author Visit: Liesl Shurtliff

That's right!
The wonderful Liesl Shurtliff
is coming to our school on Monday!

I have had such a fun time preparing for this visit with the students. They've been reading the books, I've been sharing excerpts, and we've been talking about writer's craft.  It has been a blast.

Check out this fan art:
Liesl takes familiar folk literature characters and turns them into fully-fledged people, living in interesting settings, with exciting story lines. There are many aspects of Liesl's writing that the students love. For one, they like the humor and unexpected twists. For another, they like how she leaves each chapter as a cliff hanger.

I asked the students to name other characters that they would like to see Liesl write about:

I wonder whose story she will tell next?
All the stories are connected and take place on The Mountain. The students and I are eager to find out if Liesl has a map of The Mountain, The Woods, Yonder, and Beyond.  If so, they would like it on the end papers of the books. They also want to know what made her think of The Mountain as a setting as well as connecting the stories to each other. There are many more that await Liesl's visit on Monday!
