A is for apple tree outside my house

After exploring ABC books and learning where they are located and how to identify them, my kindergarten students are adding their own book to the shelf! Each kindergarten class is creating an ABC book.

D is for dog

 P is for pink

 F is for flamingo

 E is for erases

 Q is for quail

 B is for butterfly

 G is for grass

 H is for hats

 T is for turtle

 S is for sibling

 B is for bat

 C is for cat

I love Kid Pix as a tool for differentiating expression.  It is fascinating to see how students transfer their ideas from pen and paper into a digital program. For some of these kindergarten students, this was there first time drawing on a computer.  It's a powerful reminder that we need to give students multiple ways to express their understanding.  I love how some of the students were so literal in their translations where others either went beyond their sketch or chose to be more sparing.

The students can follow any of the styles we explored, such as ABC books where: the letter is seen within another object; a number of objects beginning with that letter are displayed; or, an overall theme exists.  It's basically readers' choice!

When the slides are complete, we'll be creating a Kid Pix slide show, an eBook and a print book to go on the shelves.  This is a 21st Century library after all!

  1. I wasn't sure what to do with my Ks after we finish poetry - this might be it!

    1. You are so artistic and creative that you will make it even better! I am thinking of making an adjective alphabet book next time!
