"You are going to like learning about falcons"

May has been dominated by research projects in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades.  My schedule does not allow for collaboration with all these grades at the same time, so my role from grade to grade has varied.

The first graders are learning about animal adaptations and those specifically regarding birds.  This unit started with the visit about Birds of Prey from the Wingmasters Program.

We then reviewed accessing and navigating the PebbleGo Encyclopedia as well as finding information in nonfiction books.  The next visit involved modeling taking notes and using the data collection sheets.

Then the real research began.
I love when my library is full of that productive buzz of engaged learners.

The research visits were followed by a visit to use our newest vehicle for expression, Kid Pix 3D.  The students are well-versed with Kid Pix 3X, so this visit required only a demonstration of the new features.  The best part of this morning was how quickly the students jumped in to help each other out. One student was heard to say, "If you need help recording, I'll be out in the hallway."  I love these resident experts!

Want to learn about birds and how their adaptations help them?

Stay tuned!
Their projects will be posted soon.
