WRAD-i-cal Celebration

"I'm on the top of the world 

looking around at my students 

and the only explanation I can find 

is the books that were read by the people who came around 

their reading put us at the top of the world."

While Tweeting and updating statuses on Facebook Wednesday night, I finally raised my white flag, I had run out of superlatives to describe what was one of the "most awesomnessest" days.  

"I'm on top of the world..."

Yup. Still am, three days later.  

Now, only 361 more days until we get to do it all over again!

For World Read Aloud Day, I'm planning on reading aloud...

Nothing....I won't be reading anything aloud, but...my students will!

They are reading:

They will be connecting with other readers and learners in Germany, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Texas and Minnesota!

Our school superintendent is stopping by to read aloud and...we are also connecting with amazing author/illustrators' Peter H. Reynolds, Jarrett Krosozka and Ame Dyckman! WOW!  We will be sending copies of their books to LitWorld and hope they are loved as much by other reads as they are by us.

Also, this week, every classroom will read Plant a Kiss, written by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds.  This book has beautiful messages about caring and sharing. See how this book inspired some of my students to Plant it Forward. We will then Read It Forward by sending this class copy to LitWorld.  We hope these books will travel far and wide! 

At home, families will be recording the number of minutes spent reading aloud.  We'll be doing some math at school on Thursday!  The students are also each decorating a bookmark at home with a family member. We'll be sending these bookmarks to LitWorld as well.

The World Read Aloud Day Ambassadors are ready!

The World Read Aloud DayAmbassadors are getting ready for their work next week.  Their job is to get every student and staff member excited for the big event on Wednesday, March 6th.

They have created scripts:

Van: Hello Ms Ramgren’s class, I’m Van and this is Pete, Ellie, Ollie and Clary and we are here to tell you about World read aloud day, or WRAD.

Clary: W.R.A.D. is a day devoted to reading. How many of you read at home with your parents? (pause) What kind of books do you read?(pause, call on children)

Pete: W.R.A.D. is on March 6, 2013. That’s tomorrow!

Ellie: World Read Aloud Day is when people around the world read a book aloud to each other. It is in celebration of being able to read. Think about how much you wouldn’t know if you couldn’t read!

Ollie:  So help us on this amazing day by reading aloud to someone or have someone read aloud to you. 

Ellie:  Everyone will have a notice sent home to their parents informing them of W.R.A.D.

Clary:  You will also get bookmarks sent home to you for you to decorate.

Ollie: All the bookmarks will be sent off to children who benefit from LitWorld, which is an organization that helps kids who can’t read!

Pete On W.R.A.D. tomorrow you should ask your parents to read aloud to you because everyone in the world will also be reading aloud.
